Spring Onion Companion Planting
Simply by placing certain plants next to others you can naturally repel pests and stimulate growth.
Spring onion companion planting. Onions are super duper easy to grow but i like to use companion planting anyway. It is unlikely to prove 100 successful in preventing insect attack but it is just one of the practices used by organic gardeners. Asparagus basil carrots celery and parsley are ideal companion plants for tomatoes to help each other grow.
Onions garlic and other onion family plants. The smell of carrots also deters onion fly from onions. Onions and garlic are compatible with most varieties of tomato.

Tomatoes are also compatible with chives and onion. Add compost or worm castings from your worm farm if you have one and ensure the soil is loose and friable. Another trick promoted in permaculture is planting in scattered groupings rather than rows of vegetables in a neat straight line.
Some of the greatest companion plants in my garden are those which have nothing to do with my vegetable patch but are the awesome locally native trees and shrubs i have planted about the place. The best thing about companion planting is that it increases the biodiversity of your patch. Add lime if your soil is too acidic or sulphur if too alkaline.
Onions are especially good companions to certain plants because of their ability to deter bugs. Companion planting is maybe the easiest organic way to encourage health and growth in your garden. That is the variety of life forms in your garden.
Spring onion likes. With companion planting one plant can help another either by deterring the pests that might attack it or by attracting beneficial insects or by providing the right nutrients. Mostly onions provide protection for other plants the smell masks the presence of other plants which tricks pests into thinking it s not worth stopping off for a bite to eat.
For whatever reason studies have shown that companion planting really does work. Spring onions sow spring onions amongst your carrots the smell of onion deters carrot root fly. Some give off toxins that can cause chemical imbalances in other plants stunting growth or causing flavor changes.
There are a couple of plants though that onions do well with. Garlic in particular repels the red spider mites that normally favor tomato plants.
